With the support of sourcing partner Omwani, I was invited to join Dear Green on a journey to the Rwenzori Mountains in western Uganda to document the people and stories behind some of the incredible coffees they source from Agri Evolve. The trip gave me the opportunity to meet the farmers growing coffee in everything from small garden plots to larger fields, often alongside food and other crops, spend time within their communities, and meet the people working across the wider coffee industry, including the team at Agri Evolve’s leading washing station, where the coffee is processed. Being there in person allowed me to gain a much deeper understanding of the journey coffee takes — from the farmers and their crops, through harvesting and processing, to the green coffee that eventually makes its way to the UK. A particularly meaningful part of the journey was visiting Kyanzababiri to see first-hand the seedling nursery that Dear Green has been supporting over the past year, helping farmers introduce new coffee and shade trees and build greater resilience for the future. My role was to document this journey and help tell the stories of the people whose knowledge, care and hard work are behind every cup.
